Drum major

The drum major is the leader of the marching band. His/her duties include running marching band rehearsals, teaching drill charts, conducting the field shows, and conducting the pep bands. Drum majors are also asked to conduct the concert band as well and thus must be a trained musician and acomplished performer as well.
