Music box

a clockwork mechanism invented at the end of the 18th-century containing a cylinder with small spikes on it situated beside a sheet of metal with tuned tongues. When the cylinder is rotated by means of a crank, it causes the spikes to pluck tuned tongues of metal, thus producing a melody.
