DEFINITION

For wind instruments, a note played without stopping ( muting). For stringed instruments, a pitch played on a string that is not stopped by the finger; for wind instruments, a note that is played without depressing a valve or key, or covering any fingerhole.A term used in rudimental drumming that refers to the speed at which a rudiment is performed.
