Simplex

A term used in Medieval theory which covered a variety of specific meanings, but in each case it had the implication of a simple as opposed to a more complex item. " simplices conductus " implied a monophonic composition, " simplex organum " implied simple as opposed to composite organum, " simplex breve " implied that the breve should be of a regular, unlengthened duration, etc.
