Sul tasto

A directive to string musicians to perform the indicated passage with the bow over the fingerboard of the instrument rather than in the usual position, which is between the fingerboard and the bridge.See also [Fr.] sur la touche; [Ger.] Am Griffbret; [It.] Sul tasto or Sulla tastiera. on the fingerboard; i.e., in string playing, an indication to bow (or sometimes to pluck) over the fingerboard; the opposite of sul ponticello. Playing over the fingerboard produces a warmer, gentler tone.<br><br>The bow is played lightly over the fingerboard, creating a hazy sound. This is also known as FLAUTANDO.
